From Humble Beginnings to a United Vision

Fonua Ola began in 2009 as a bold collaboration between 13 small Pasifika service providers and voluntary groups. These pioneers came together with a shared commitment to support Pacific communities facing some of Aotearoa’s most pressing social challenges. Their work, often voluntary and under-resourced, was driven by love for our people, faith, and a deep understanding that no one knows us better than us. In 2011, this collective officially became Fonua Ola — a name that represents unity, service, and wellbeing for our families. What started with grassroots providers has now grown into an organisation with over 50 staff across three Auckland sites and an annual turnover nearing $10 million
